Local marketers go for it at the Yougo4it Games

Monday, 31st January, 2007

The health of young people is a top priority for AVF Marketing in Northallerton.  The marketing company has worked with the school catering departments of six local authorities to produce a website aimed at Secondary School students promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles.

www.yougo4it.co.uk was launched last week (Wednesday, 24th January) in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets by Britain’s top sprint hurdler, Andy Turner and Lucy Boggis, an 18 year old heptathlete who is aiming for the Olympic Games in 2012.

Arnold, Karen and Nicola Proud from AVF Marketing, which created the website, competed against children and caterers from the local authorities involved.

www.yougo4it.co.uk is supported by the British Olympic Foundation and has been approved by Diabetes UK, the Eating Disorders Association and Allergy UK.  It includes recipes from former Olympic athletes Colin Jackson, Sally Gunnell, Matthew Pinsent and Jonathan Edwards.

On the website young people can send in amusing videos, contribute to message boards, vote on topical issues, send in their blogs and see what’s ‘in or out’.  Students will also be able to read Andy Turner’s latest blog and download his podcast which is full of fun and intriguing questions.  The site also includes health information, school lunch menus, exercise and lifestyle advice.  A dedicated study section has been added to the website to help students understand how our bodies work when doing various sports.

Arnold Fewell, Managing Director of AVF Marketing, which has created www.yougo4it.co.uk said: “When the new school meal menus were introduced in September no-one spoke to the students directly.  Young people are a very sophisticated market and by using blogs, podcasts and elite athletes to get the healthy eating message across we will help combat the concerns of increasing obesity in young people.  The Olympic Games are going to be a hot topic over the coming years and by working with the British Olympic Foundation we believe this website will have a healthy impact on the youth of today and tomorrow.”

North Yorkshire County Council is one of the six authorities involved in the website.

Arnold added: “It is great that North Yorkshire County Council is involved.  The authority already promotes healthy eating through its website at www.myschoollunch.co.uk/northyorks and with Herbie the Carrot but now it has an additional tool to promote school meals to the older children.  Students in North Yorkshire can currently vote on what they think of Valentines Day and add messages about New Years Resolutions.  Young people can also win £150 of vouchers by sending us their daily blogs and funny videos.”

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets was the winning team in the Yougo4it Games that took place last week and pushed the plunger to launch the website.
