Wednesday, 30 May 2007

AVF Marketing, based in Northallerton, is through to the final round of judging for the ethical business category award of the British Small Business Champions(BSBC) 2007.

These are the only national awards solely for small businesses and were launched in 2003 by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the UK's four million small businesses.

Founder Arnold Fewell's background is in the hotel industry. In 1986 he moved to North Yorkshire County Council to run its school catering service. His use of marketing techniques which had never been used for promoting school meals before increased the take up of school meals fro 20% to 60% in just three years.

In 1989 Arnold was appointed as Divisional Marketing Director for Education Services for the major catering company Gardner Merchant.
AVF Marketing was launched in 1990 with the target market of local authorities and their promotion of school meals. The website www.myschoollunch.co.uk was launched with five local authorities in 2003. Currently there are 22 lives sites with more to come in the near future.  AVF Marketing has also created a website to promote children learning to cook for seven local authorities and a website aimed at Secondary School students at www.yougo4it.co.uk. AVF not only creates the websites but also manages them.

This is a family-run business. Arnold’s wife Lynn and their daughters Nicola and Karen all work for AVF.

The FSB protects, promotes and represents the interests of the UK's small business sector. Its policies are determined by its 200,000 members – who are actually running their own businesses.
