A world class sponsorship from local business

Wednesday, 1st August 2007

The success of an international wheelchair archery competition was right on target thanks to support from a Northallerton business.

AVF Marketing Ltd was one of the sponsors at the third European Archery Grand Prix.  The event took place from 18th to 23rd July at Stoke Mandeville, the home of British wheelchair sport.

Competitors from Great Britain, China, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the Ukraine attended, including Paralympic Gold medallists and the Team GB Elite squad.

This event first took place in 2005 with the aim of providing more competition in Europe for disabled archers.  It proved very successful and is now an annual event on the archery calendar.

Arnold Fewell, Managing Director, AVF Marketing Ltd said: “I have a lot of interest in wheelchair archery and actually competed in this event myself.  It was very satisfying watching Paralympic gold medallists shoot, knowing that AVF Marketing helped this fantastic event to take place.  It enabled some of Great Britain’s best archers to prepare for this year’s World Championships in Korea and the Paralympics in Beijing.

“AVF Marketing recognises the importance of helping others and this was recognised by the judges of the British Small Business Champions.  In June we were announced area runner up in the Ethical Business Award.  The British Wheelchair Archery Association is just one of the organisations we have helped.”

David Hilton, British Wheelchair Archery Association said: “Without the support of our sponsors we could not run this event.  Bad weather caused the first day of competition to be brought to a halt as the stadium was flooded.  But by the Saturday morning everyone was raring to shoot again.  The weather certainly didn’t put a dampener on the competitors’ spirits as we saw an exciting weekend of shooting. ”
